Objectives

The project aimed to empower women -of all ages and backgrounds- living in rural communities, through tailored made workshops. The learning opportunities provided covered a variety of topics, such as skill-building in entrepreneurship, cultural and natural heritage preservation, creative expression, and women empowerment. Key objectives included: - Strengthening participants' personal and professional capabilities. - Increasing their access to economic opportunities, by equipping them with practical tools, such as marketing and social media skills. - Promoting gender equality by encouraging women’s participation in leadership roles and public life. - Activating local communities to preserve and promote cultural and environmental heritage. - International and intercultural exchange. Ultimately, the project sought to foster personal growth, create sustainable economic opportunities, and inspire a sense of ownership and pride of local heritage.

Background

The Artemis & Diana project was designed to address significant challenges faced by women in rural areas in Greece and Italy, including limited access to professional opportunities, skills training, and active participation in public and economic life. These women often encounter high unemployment rates, social inequalities, and geographic isolation, which hinder their ability to network or engage in entrepreneurial activities. At the same time, the rich cultural and natural heritage of these regions, while valuable, remains underutilised as a driver for local development and socio-economic growth. The project aimed to bridge these gaps by empowering women -on a personal, as well as professional level- as agents of change, equipping them with practical skills in entrepreneurship and cultural and natural heritage management. By integrating life-long learning activities and intercultural collaboration, the initiative activated community engagement in preserving and promoting heritage, while enhancing gender equity and creating pathways for women to contribute meaningfully to their communities and local economies.
