The journey embarked upon by the "Step into a (dis)ability" project aimed to delve into the emotions and barriers faced by individuals with impairments. Our objective was to cultivate an inclusive environment where young individuals could challenge preconceived notions about disabilities by immersing themselves in the lives of disabled individuals. It is important to acknowledge that disabled individuals are often marginalized within society, subjected to stereotypes, stigma and discrimination. A significant portion of the disabled community is excluded from aspects of life that others take for granted. These disparities manifest in various ways, affecting their psychological well-being, cultural integration, and economic opportunities. In order to foster inclusivity and eliminate social exclusion for individuals with disabilities, it is crucial to gain insight into their experiences and the obstacles they encounter on a daily basis. The project successfully accomplished its primary goals by providing workshops and engaging activities that allowed participants to develop a comprehensive understanding of disability, transform their perceptions and collaborate with the disabled community to dismantle barriers. Through this process, participants not only gained firsthand knowledge of the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities, but also acquired the skills to create accessible environments, promote acceptance of diversity, diminish apprehension towards differences and empower people with disabilities to share their perspectives and contribute to society. Finally, “Step into a (dis)ability” aimed to be a highly educational project, providing a chance to establish a life-changing experience while also addressing the requirement for more diverse youth exchanges. It proved successful in showcasing the opportunities provided by the Erasmus+ program to develop truly impactful projects that benefit everyone involved. In essence, it created a genuine opportunity for educational transformation through an alternative, accessible, and inclusive approach to teaching and learning within the community.
