Objectives

The goal of New Sprouts was to enable participants to start (or contribute to the creation of) new organisations that would have sustainability and social well-being as their main goals. This was a highly practical Training Course, where we worked with real, actionable ideas and case studies. They worked with ecovillages, youth organisations, product or service-based organisations, new courses, or events linked with sustainability in its 3 pillars (social, environmental, economic). The New Sprouts inspired young Europeans not only to be more employable in the current local working landscape but also to imagine new ways for organisations to create jobs, as well as contribute to the regeneration of the European environmental and social landscape. The participants were inspired to see organisations as organic, living beings that grew, lived, and interacted as such, as they were made of people - taking part in an existing ecosystem. Participants learned to act while respecting each form of life, starting from the land. This view prevented participants from acting unconsciously and helped them gain knowledge about natural dynamics that could be applied to their specific organisational needs. Our main aim was to give youth workers the skills and information to create organisations (communities, businesses, events, courses) that wouldn’t just be sustainable but would be actively working for sustainability and collective well-being, and to help them think creatively about sustainable initiatives. More specifically the objectives of the project were the following: 32 youth workers to design a structured action plan for the ideated sustainable organisations. To live in a sustainable community for 11 days, with finite access to water and resources that have to be shared consciously. To encourage 32 youth workers to start their organisations for sustainability in the social, economic, and environmental context of today. 32 youth workers to gain the necessary skills to support young people to create their own organisations with a focus on sustainability & social wellbeing. Youth workers learn about self-awareness, natural dynamics, sustainability, and entrepreneurship and support others to make changes in their lives. To gain an understanding of the main entrepreneurial skills needed to run an organisation: ideation, strategy and business planning, management, HR, pitching and presenting, sales and marketing. To understand the interconnectedness and systems thinking around sustainable projects and what sustainability means when conducting an organisation. To understand that even though sustainability challenges are global, interdisciplinary and systemic and need collaboration worldwide to be tackled, several actions can be performed right now to facilitate the process toward a sustainable society. To create 10 videos about the sustainable organisations that will be ideated. To create a recap video on the things they have learnt. 30% of sustainable organisations to be ready to run. Youth workers promote the video presentations and continue their organisations. To strengthen cooperation between partner organisations and to provide them with ideas to become more sustainable. A mini series of videos/documentary with interviews from youth workers about their projects
