The project aimed to encourage young people in rural communities to get involved in local politics, as this was the level at which most decisions were made that directly affected their daily lives. It sought to create opportunities for rural youth to become active in democratic processes and to engage with decision-making structures that influenced their communities and futures. It also aimed to strengthen the capacity of young people to express their opinions and to actively participate in decisions that concerned them. Through the project’s activities, young people were encouraged to adopt a critical mindset so that they would not accept agricultural decision-making passively but would instead reflect rationally and question choices that had an impact on them. Finally, the project set the objective of informing youth about agricultural local authorities’ youth-related policies and of improving their leadership abilities. By focusing on communication and negotiation techniques, the project enabled participants to develop skills that would benefit them at different levels of their lives – socially, professionally, and politically.
