Objectives

Before the creation of this project, the need was expressed to have: -better understanding of the situation of women in the region and informing the local community, local authorities and decision-makers about direct and indirect forms of discrimination against women with the aim of gradually eliminating them -raising awareness of the fundamental rights of women which are an obligation and central objective of the EU and its Member States with the aim of the social and economic inclusion and emancipation of women and girls -designing learning activities with an emphasis on organizational and digital skills with the aim of strengthening their training -their active participation in civil society through volunteering and consultation actions with the local authority and society with the aim of improving their contact with local decision-making centers -exchange of information, experiences and good practices with young people and women from corresponding regions of the EU with the aim of empowering the female population of rural areas. We then proceeded to an online meeting with our partners, who shared the above themes and our needs, and we ended up creating the project “Female Odysseys” which aimed to: -Train a gender balanced group of 20 volunteers aged 18 to 30 who live or come from Thermo, in Oral History methods, in order to collect, process and present to the community an equal number of life stories of women who left as adults and others who remained or returned and live in Thermo. In this way, the young people became familiar with the use of digital non-formal learning tools that are based on creative practices and function as incentives for collective empathy and social change. -The activation of a European group of 33 young people from rural areas (6 from each partner country, 9 from Greece gender balanced) in an exchange program which a) educated them through art by utilizing the data of women's life narratives with dramatization techniques, organizing a theatrical event in Thermos b) raised their awareness about women's fundamental rights, European values and the EU's women's empowerment policies, through the exchange of good practices from their countries. -Understanding the concept of consultation and democratic tools by organizing a Two-Day Dialogue with the participation of the administration of the Municipality of Thermos, local bodies and supra-local decision-makers, where the young people of the program presented their findings on the causes and problems of demographic depopulation and discussed with the authorities the motivations, prospects and proposals for return with an emphasis on women.
