The project aimed to increase the awareness of youth and relevant stakeholders in relation to the European strategies concerning the green transition and climate action. Through the creation of the CarboFarmHub in four countries, we wanted to provide accessible, non-formal learning opportunities that empower youth to understand the meaning of Carbon farming. We also aimed to valorise the role of farming in reducing environmental and social impacts, involving at least 600 young people, 350 stakeholders and 100 farmers in awareness-raising, training and engagement activities. Another key objective was to connect policy, research and practice through a co-designed policy brief that analyses EU climate policies and reflects the voices of young participants and stakeholders. Overall, the aim of the project is sensitising youth on the importance of boosting social andgreen innovation, all the non-formal training activities will focus on promoting organic production systems, carbon farming, allowing beneficiaries (young farmers and aspirants) to achieve up-to-date soft and technical skills, useful for their own personal and professional growth, as well as reinforcing their employability.
We applied for this project to address the urgent need for greater awareness and skills among young people and young farmers regarding climate change, sustainable food systems, and the new opportunities created by the EU Green Deal, Farm2Fork strategy and the Carbon Farming Initiative. Climate change is already affecting agriculture and rural communities, while traditional production models remain unsustainable. At the same time, the transition to organic and low-carbon farming requires new knowledge, accessible training and stronger links between policy, research and practice. All partner countries share the need to prepare youth to participate actively in the green transition, improve their employability, and understand innovative models such as carbon farming. Young farmers in particular lack support to adopt climate-smart practices and benefit from emerging carbon markets. The project responds to these needs by creating awareness hubs that offer non-formal education, capacity building and stakeholder engagement, helping youth and rural stakeholders develop the skills required for sustainable and resilient agricultural systems.
