Objectives

The purpose of this project is to continue advancing the objectives set out in our ECHE Charter, with the main goal of continuously improving the training and qualifications of our students in the fields of Hospitality and Tourism at the higher vocational level. This includes the promotion of key values such as intercultural understanding and sustainability, aimed at developing professionals with international projection. We firmly believe that this is the core objective of our work. The additional objectives outlined in our project—such as broadening the international outlook of our educational community, improving language competences, enhancing knowledge of European culture and best practices in sustainability and environmental care, as well as fostering respect for others—not only contribute to this aim, but are also fundamental components in the hospitality and tourism sector and for the professionals who work within it. At the IES Escuela de Hostelería y Turismo de Alcalá, the ERASMUS+ project is integrated within the broader Internationalisation Strategy of our educational centre. The main goal of this strategy is to promote and develop the appropriate activities and environments so that the entire educational community within our VET centre can improve their language competences—both in their native and in foreign languages—thereby enhancing internationalisation, employability, competitiveness, creativity, global awareness, and the personal and professional development of students, as well as the teaching practices of our staff. This project is developed within a framework of sustainability and supported by digitalisation as a key tool. The improvements driven by the internationalisation project—as well as those resulting from our ongoing institutional digital innovation project—will enable our educational centre to aspire to become part of the European Network of Centres of Vocational Excellence. Other Internationalisation Activities (Not Included Under Erasmus+ but Closely Aligned with Its Vision) As part of this internationalisation framework, we also carry out numerous activities that, although not formally part of any Erasmus+ project, are closely related to our global and international outlook: • Language Exchange Tables ("Mesas de idiomas") To provide our students with real immersion experiences in interacting with clients of different nationalities, we invite international guests to the various school services. These guests typically speak English or French as their main language, allowing our students to practice these languages in real-life situations—such as in restaurant service, customer service, or guided tours of the city or the educational centre. This is made possible through collaboration agreements with local institutions such as Alcalingua, the Instituto Franklin, and other organisations that host international visitors in Alcalá de Henares. • Irish and British Breakfasts These themed breakfasts are designed to develop both language skills and cultural awareness related to gastronomy. The menus and services are tailored to reflect Irish and British culinary traditions. The main target group for this initiative is local secondary school students. Through their English departments, they book these breakfasts as a complementary educational activity. The project represents a meaningful challenge for our higher-level students—particularly those in Kitchen Management and Tourist Information and Guidance programmes—as they are responsible for both the preparation and guided interaction during these events. • Bilateral Cooperation Agreements with Other Training Centres Many of the staff Erasmus mobilities have led to strengthened collaboration with the hospitality and tourism training centres visited abroad. As a result, bilateral support agreements have been established to facilitate both curricular and non-curricular internships in hospitality businesses across partner countries. These agreements expand our network of trusted contacts, vetted by local institutions, providing a higher guarantee of matching students with appropriate placements. In addition, these agreements often include support for accommodation, supervision, and follow-up, ensuring that students receive closer, more personalized assistance if needed. These types of agreements have proven particularly useful in Italy, the Netherlands, and France, with partner institutions in the hospitality and tourism sectors offering mutual support in managing student internships. • Participation in Hospitality and Tourism Associations and International Competitions Our centre is a member of professional associations such as the AEHT (European Association of Hospitality and Tourism Schools) and actively takes part in international competitions across the various specialisations taught at our institution.
