Objectives

The Erasmus+ 2023 project was designed to promote the international mobility of students and staff at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), in line with the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE), the Internationalization Strategy, and the 2030 Agenda. Its main goal was to enhance educational quality, employability, and the institution’s international profile, contributing to a more inclusive, digital, and sustainable European Higher Education Area. Academic and personal development The project aimed to strengthen transversal, intercultural, and language skills, as well as participants’ autonomy, adaptability, and leadership. It also sought to reinforce their sense of European citizenship and commitment to the core values of the EU: solidarity, sustainability, democracy, and cooperation. Inclusion and equity The project prioritized equal opportunities, applying automatic top-ups for students with fewer opportunities and reinforcing support through the Buddy Program and specific guides to ensure academic and social integration. Digitalization and modernization It consolidated fully digital mobility management through tools such as Erasmus Without Paper (EWP), Online Learning Agreement (OLA), and the European Student Identifier (ESI), while advancing process automation and developing an institutional chatbot to improve user support and administrative efficiency. Sustainability and Green Erasmus Although insularity limits the use of green travel, the project integrated the Green Transition priority by promoting sustainable habits and awareness. On-campus measures complemented this approach: free public transport, electric vehicle charging points, installation of 15 photovoltaic systems (1.7 MW), and rewilding projects. International cooperation The project strengthened partnerships with European and international universities and ULPGC’s integration into the European Reform University Alliance (ERUA), expanding opportunities for students and staff in joint programs, innovative teaching projects, and research networks. In short, the project was conceived as a transformative platform to empower the university community, reinforce institutional internationalization, and contribute to building a more cohesive, inclusive, and globally prepared Europe.
