The University of Burgos (UBU) is firmly committed to its international projection, making internationalisation one of the fundamental pillars of its strategy. Within this framework, UBU is a member of the RUN-EU Alliance (Regional University Network-European University), together with universities from Austria, Belgium, Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Portugal, with which it works closely to advance towards the creation of a genuine European University. Participation in this alliance has provided decisive momentum for the consolidation of its international dimension. Through the implementation of this project, UBU aimed to further advance its internationalisation process by strengthening its mobility policy through traditional initiatives —such as student mobility for studies (SMS) or traineeships (SMP), staff mobility for teaching (STA), and academic or administrative staff mobility for training (STT)— while also opening new opportunities through innovative actions such as short-term mobilities and Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs). These modalities have enabled the participation of students who, for various reasons, could not engage in long-term mobility experiences, thereby expanding the inclusiveness and reach of the programme. The organisation of combined short programmes on UBU’s own campus has additionally provided new avenues for internationalisation at home, through the presence of international students and teaching staff, and the development of joint online activities with an innovative character that foster teaching innovation. International mobilities beyond Europe also constitute a strategic axis, particularly attractive to academic staff, as they facilitate cooperation with partners in third countries. These experiences not only strengthen the scope of the Erasmus programme but also open new perspectives for collaboration with emerging institutions. The project therefore pursued complementary and wide-ranging objectives: extending mobility opportunities to all groups within the university community, across all faculties and scientific fields; generating synergies that enhance the institution’s internationalisation; promoting participation in joint projects; fostering teaching innovation; and consolidating ties with partner universities. Specifically, it sought to reinforce mobility within the framework of the RUN-EU Alliance, offering faculty members interested in internationalisation the chance to establish contacts with European colleagues, participate in International Weeks, organise teaching mobilities and BIPs, and propose new Erasmus mobility agreements. The Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) and short-term mobilities represent an innovative dimension of the programme, broadening student participation and encouraging the exchange of experiences in educational innovation. UBU’s coordination of such programmes has provided valuable added benefits: students unable to undertake long-term physical mobility have had the opportunity to share online learning experiences and in-person activities with peers from other institutions, thereby enriching their training from an international perspective. Likewise, inter-university collaboration in designing these courses has fostered the adoption of innovative tools and the creation of teaching proposals with a strong pedagogical innovation component. In addition, the project contributes to providing an international dimension to other strategic policies at UBU, such as sustainability, digitalisation, and inclusion. It also reinforces the university’s social outreach, extending its impact beyond academia and involving the local and regional environment. Finally, one of the project’s key objectives has been to ensure effective dissemination of the Erasmus programme and of the project’s results, guaranteeing their visibility and impact both within and beyond the institution.
