Objectives

The University of León, through its Vice-Rectorate for Internationalization and Global Engagement, has implemented the Erasmus+ KA131 project corresponding to the 2023 call within the framework of its institutional policy of internationalization. This action is consistent with the Erasmus+ Policy Statement, published on the institutional website on the occasion of the application for the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE), which serves as the basis for the university’s internationalization strategy. The project was designed with the purpose of encouraging the participation of the university community in international mobility and academic cooperation programmes, promoting both formal and non-formal learning, and equipping participants with skills and qualifications that foster their integration into a democratic, plural and inclusive society. It also aims to strengthen employability and adaptability of young people to a constantly evolving labour market, while enhancing intercultural understanding and commitment to the European values of equality, prosperity and social cohesion. Specific objectives: - To promote the mobility of undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students, for study and traineeships, so that they can acquire key linguistic, digital and transversal skills essential for their personal and professional development. - To foster the mobility of teaching and research staff in order to improve the quality of teaching, diversify pedagogical methods, strengthen international research, and establish sustainable links with partner institutions. - To encourage the mobility of administrative and technical staff aimed at acquiring good management practices, innovative administrative tools and intercultural skills that enable more inclusive and globally oriented services. - To contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the Horizon 2030 agenda through the internationalization of the university structures, the improvement of community competences, and the reinforcement of international cooperation networks. Achieved results: During the implementation of the project, the University of León has significantly reinforced participation in mobility programmes. The university community has experienced a considerable increase in the international dimension of its academic and professional activities, which has resulted in a larger number of cooperation agreements, new opportunities for institutional collaboration and an improved international visibility of the institution. For students, mobility for study purposes has allowed undergraduate, master’s and doctoral participants to acquire key competences that enhance their employability. The experience of undertaking an international stay, in direct contact with other educational, social and cultural systems, constitutes a differentiating element in their academic and professional careers that could hardly be achieved without physical mobility. These stays have promoted the development of autonomy, adaptability, problem-solving abilities and teamwork in multicultural environments. For teaching and research staff, the impact has been equally relevant. Mobility has facilitated the exchange of technical and pedagogical knowledge, the exploration of new teaching methodologies, the reinforcement of international research in collaboration with partner universities, and the development of joint projects and publications. The creation of sustainable academic networks contributes to the international projection of the University of León’s research and to the enhancement of teaching quality, with a direct benefit for local students. For administrative and technical staff, participation in mobility has led to the acquisition of innovative management tools and the incorporation of good practices in administrative processes. Furthermore, it has promoted the development of linguistic and social competences that result in more efficient, inclusive and user-oriented services, thereby contributing to the modernization and internationalization of the university’s support structures. Institutional impact: The execution of this project has consolidated internationalization as a strategic priority of the University of León. Institutional capacities have been reinforced, opportunities for cooperation expanded, and new working dynamics generated that enhance the academic and research competitiveness of the university. Erasmus+ KA131 has proven to be a key driver for opening new paths of international collaboration and for reinforcing the European dimension of higher education. The project has not only increased the number of participants in mobility programmes but also produced a sustainable and positive impact on the entire university community, contributing to skills development, improved academic quality, and the consolidation of a more open, inclusive and internationally competitive institution.
