Objectives

The Pancho Lasso School of Art is the only educational center of its kind on the island of Lanzarote, which is part of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands. Our institution provides artistic training to the entire population of the island, as well as to students from La Graciosa and, partially, from Fuerteventura. The educational offer includes the Arts Baccalaureate and Intermediate and Advanced Vocational Training Cycles, corresponding to EQF levels 4 and 5. The uniqueness of our context lies in its status as an outermost and insular territory, which entails greater difficulties in accessing international educational experiences due to the distance from continental Europe and the limited availability of external resources and contacts. This reality has always required an additional effort and posed a significant challenge when promoting participation in European projects. However, thanks to participation in Erasmus+, we have been able to offer our educational community—especially the students and staff participating in mobilities—an international perspective accompanied by cultural, personal, linguistic, and professional enrichment. These experiences have had a very positive impact on learning, motivation, and employability for the beneficiaries. From the outset of the project, our expectations focused on opening the school to the international context, fostering cooperation with educational and cultural institutions from other countries, and providing students and staff with opportunities that would be difficult to achieve from our insular reality. Our goal was not only academic and professional improvement but also an enhancement of personal autonomy, digital competencies, intercultural awareness, and a sense of European identity. Fundamental objectives of the project Promote a positive attitude toward interculturality and strengthen the sense of European citizenship. Collaborate with institutions from different EU and non-EU countries, following a clear internationalization strategy that consolidates the quality of artistic education through mobility projects and international cooperation. Promote and support the mobility of students and teaching and non-teaching staff through inclusive, transparent, and non-discriminatory policies. Foster innovative transnational learning methodologies, including the exchange of good pedagogical practices, the use of digital technologies, the design of shared curricular activities, and the enhancement of digital competencies. Recognize and make visible the results obtained through mobilities, ensuring that the benefits reach not only direct participants but the entire educational community. The outcomes of mobilities and international cooperation are integrated into the institution’s internationalization strategy. Establish strong links between artistic education, research, creativity, and the business sector to reinforce innovation and contribute to local and regional development, enhancing students’ professional opportunities and the economic impact of the cultural sector. Expand European graduates’ knowledge of the artistic labor market in other regions, promoting employability and understanding of diverse professional contexts. Ensure high-quality education regardless of students’ socioeconomic background, guaranteeing at all times the transparency, quality, and academic recognition of each mobility. Ensure that cultural and knowledge exchange directly improves educational quality, consolidating the European dimension of the artistic studies offered at the School. In short, the aim of this project was to progressively transform the Pancho Lasso School of Art into a center with greater international projection, capable of offering students and staff learning and cooperation experiences that strengthen their artistic and personal development and position the school as a cultural and educational reference within the European context. Following the project’s implementation, we can affirm that the objectives set have been achieved and even surpassed, consolidating an internationalization strategy that has positively transformed both the school and its social and cultural environment.
