Objectives

The student and staff mobility project at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) is part of the quality framework for European and international collaboration activities set out in the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE). The main objectives of the project are, on the one hand, innovation and quality of mobility activities and, on the other hand, consolidation of the level of participation of students (especially those with fewer opportunities) together with the improvement in mobility quality due to a growing internationalization culture in staff training and teaching mobility. Thus, the project is integrated within the objectives of the UPM’s strategic internationalization plan. Among these we may highlight the inclusion in the budget of the UPM, the consolidation of an organization chart in the international area, the strategic lines of action with regard to the development of skills or the promotion of the international dimension in teaching and research by both making the university more attractive to foreign students and teachers and promoting professional development of our teaching as well as our technical staff in administration and services. Furthermore, to enable our students, through this international experience, to acquire new linguistic, academic and intercultural competences and to grow as people outside their environment, knowing new cultures, societies and teaching methods. The total number of student participants was 1058, together with 111 participants from staff mobility for training and teaching. In total, 1169 participants, of whom 403 were students "with fewer opportunities".
