International orientation is one of the distinctive features of the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), and mobility is the activity that most clearly demonstrates this. In April 2021, the strategic plan for the internationalization of the UPF was approved (https://www.upf.edu/internacional), defining the path forward and setting tangible goals to achieve greater internationalization for the university and its entire community. The mobility programs at the UPF, through an extensive and selective network of exchange agreements, enrich our campuses with international students and, in turn, allow UPF students to pursue an international experience as a differentiating element of their curriculum. More than 50% of UPF graduates during the 2023-24 academic year have an international experience (https://www.upf.edu/web/xifres/grau), achieving the target set for HEI participating in European university aliances. This indicator shows that traditional mobility is very well-established and has recovered from the effects of the pandemic. The Erasmus+ program contributes to generalizing the international education experience among UPF students, making it accessible to all through its grant policy with a special focus on inclusion, priorities outlined in the Erasmus Policy Statement. In this regard, the majority of UPF students have opted for academic mobility in Europe and to benefit from the Erasmus+ grant program, which funds both study and traineeship mobility. Erasmus+ grants have ensured that all students who completed an exchange in Europe have been funded (https://www.upf.edu/web/2023-2024/relacions-internacionals-i-mobilitat). The UPF has been a pioneer in extending the possibility of international mobility grants beyond the confines of the intra-European grant, aware of the volume and cost this represents. The university has also expanded its own funding to include the United Kingdom, a country with which we maintain numerous agreements and excellent relations. The goal is to ensure that, regardless of the political situation, students can continue to have opportunities at outstanding international universities. As a result, during the 2023-2024 academic year, 76% of all mobilities received some form of financial aid. This commitment to mobility is an active policy of providing grants. This policy also allows for the intensification of all types of mobility, including staff, with strategic partners from each center in Europe and institutional partners at a global level, with a special focus on The Guild and the Eutopia university alliance, to which the UPF belongs.
