Objectives

The Erasmus+ Programme continues to be a fundamental pillar in the internationalisation strategy of Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M). In line with the objectives of the Vice-Rectorate for Internationalisation and with all previous Erasmus projects, the university set itself the main objective for the KA-131-HED project in 2023 to enrich, improve and strengthen the training of university students through international academic mobilities that would offer them not only the opportunity to enhance their academic CVs with different knowledge, perspectives and academic approaches, but also the opportunity to learn many other skills from this experience that would enrich and strengthen them both professionally and personally. To this end, the aim was to continue increasing the number of beneficiaries of the Erasmus programme and to ensure that the number of UC3M graduates who had participated in mobility programmes continued to grow. Similarly, and as a necessary counterpart to the internationalisation of the university, the aim was to strengthen the interest of incoming students at UC3M by offering them an excellent academic and personal experience at our university through the optimal management of agreements signed with their universities, personalised and professional attention, and improved information provided before, during and after their stays. Improving mobility figures is no easy task because the number of exchange students, thanks to the Erasmus+ programme, was already very high at UC3M. That is why another objective was to raise awareness of the diverse range of mobility opportunities offered by the Erasmus+ Programme, i.e. to let students know that they could choose from among the different activities the one that best suited their particular needs and interests (Erasmus studies, internships, BIP) with a view to reaching a greater number of students and, in particular, those with fewer opportunities or difficulties in living this international experience. In this way, the promotion of social inclusion and equity, in full accordance with the principles of the ECHE Charter, was established as a priority in the management of the project. The above also applies to university staff, because although the volume of resources involved and the number of participants is smaller, it is essential to involve staff in the university's internationalisation strategy. The aim was therefore to ensure that a greater number of teaching and research staff and administrative and technical staff had the opportunity to improve their training and professional skills through an Erasmus+ stay. To achieve the above, it was essential to focus the university's efforts on disseminating and providing better information about the various activities, but also on deepening and consolidating the network of international collaborations by offering a wide range of high-quality academic programmes. For all these tasks, it was essential to advance the digitisation of processes with other institutions and to improve calls for applications and internal processes. Similarly, and in relation to the above, efficient resource management was key to ensuring that more and more members of our academic community could access these enriching experiences. In short, as in previous years, the project sought to align itself with the fundamental principles of the ECHE Charter, always seeking to expand mobility opportunities and strengthen UC3M's leadership in the field of internationalisation.
