The project 2023-1-ES01-KA131-HED-000147048 was an Erasmus+ Higher Education initiative carried out by CIFP Virgen de Las Nieves between 1 June 2023 and 31 July 2025. This public Vocational Education and Training (VET) centre is located on the island of La Palma, in the Canary Islands, an outermost region of the European Union. The insular condition, together with the socio-economic difficulties faced by a significant part of the students —coming from families with modest incomes, unemployment or precarious jobs— considerably limits the possibilities of mobility outside the archipelago and reduces the opportunities for internationalisation for both students and staff. In this context, the project was designed with a fundamental objective: to overcome the geographical and social barriers that condition students and teachers of Higher VET cycles, facilitating access to quality international experiences within the Erasmus+ programme. The specific objectives for the students were: -Complement their academic training with internships in European companies. -Improve their professional competences in a working environment different from the island. -Broaden their language skills, especially in English and in the languages of the host countries. -Develop personal and social skills such as autonomy, adaptability, resilience and self-confidence. For the staff, the mobilities were expected to contribute to: -Observing good practices and methodologies in European counterpart institutions. -Establishing professional contacts and international cooperation networks. -Transferring what was learnt to the teaching context and to the didactic departments, with a direct benefit for the students. At institutional level, the project responded to the commitments defined in the Erasmus Plan 2021-2027 of CIFP Virgen de Las Nieves and in its European Internationalisation Strategy. Specifically, it aimed to: -Consolidate a growing dynamic of participation in Erasmus+. -Extend the European dimension to a greater number of professional families. -Strengthen the prestige of Vocational Education and Training on the island of La Palma, ensuring that students have opportunities comparable to those in other European territories. -Promote inclusion and equal opportunities, facilitating access to mobilities for students who, due to their geographical and social context, face greater difficulties. This project sought to offer Higher VET students and staff the real possibility of training in Europe without geographical distance or economic limitations being an obstacle, so that the experience would contribute to their personal, academic and professional development and, at the same time, foster the international openness and modernisation of the centre.
