The implementation of this project sought to enhance the internationalization of the two participating institutions, taking as a starting point their shared strategic focus: environmental sustainability, and designing activities well-adapted to the specific objectives of each institution. This project sought to impact not only the faculty participating in the activities, but also both educational communities and the society in which they are located. In the case of the Polytechnic University of Gitega (UPG), the project focused primarily on improving the teaching of environmental sustainability within technical education and on enhancing the institution's participation in international projects and networks. It also sought to motivate students to learn to speak Spanish (the language taught at this university). In the case of IES La Merced, this project sought to expand its internationalization project to a sub-Saharan African country, seeking new perspectives from which to address environmental sustainability, as well as a positive impact on the experience of multiculturalism at the school and its surroundings.
