The main objective of the Zero Waste Fashion Training project was to train students and professionals in sustainable design methodologies, especially in Zero Waste pattern making and conscious design, to reduce the environmental impact of the fashion industry. Participants were expected to acquire technical skills and environmental values applicable both in their academic training and in their professional practice. The specific objectives were: 1. To promote pedagogical innovation in fashion schools, incorporating methodologies that reduce textile waste. 2. To promote environmental awareness and a commitment to sustainability among new generations of designers. 3. To develop prototypes and capsule collections using Zero Waste strategies and material reuse. 4. To create open resources—an e-learning platform and a digital magazine—that ensure the transfer of knowledge to a wide audience. 5. To strengthen transnational cooperation, integrating the experience of institutions from different countries and fostering cultural exchange. With this, the project aimed to consolidate sustainable fashion as an area of educational innovation and social transformation.
The Zero Waste Fashion Training project was commissioned to respond to the urgent need to train fashion students and professionals in methodologies that reduce the environmental impact of the textile sector, one of the most polluting and waste-generating industries. It was essential to provide pedagogical tools that integrated sustainability into teaching and professional practice. The project addressed four main needs: 1. Incorporate innovative methodologies such as Zero Waste pattern making and conscious design into fashion design training. 2. Promote environmental awareness among new generations of designers, linking creativity and ecological responsibility. 3. Strengthen international cooperation between academic and professional institutions in Europe and Latin America. 4. Create open digital resources—an e-learning platform and a digital magazine—that ensure knowledge transfer beyond in-person workshops. With this approach, the project directly contributed to the green transition, pedagogical innovation, and the internationalization of sustainable fashion teaching.
