Objectives

The From Home to Europe project aimed to strengthen local sustainability as a key driver for fostering a broader sense of collectivity in Europe. Our primary objective was to contribute to job growth at both local and European levels, reduce social inequality, and promote the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. Specifically, we sought to train adult educators on the importance of local development in driving economies and societies forward and its role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We also aimed to share processes for sustainable local entrepreneurship, educate trainers on local needs to create a cohesive European strategy, and highlight the role of migration in community and cultural development. By equipping adult educators with knowledge about the opportunities local development offers to reduce inequalities and generate sustainable jobs, we aspired to foster a sense of both local and European unity. Through the newly developed educational materials, we aimed to provide partner organizations with high-quality resources to train adult learners in local and European development.

Background

We developed the From Home to Europe project primarily because we identified a lack of emphasis on raising awareness about the importance of local development as the foundation for European development. Without a connected and conscious local network, it is very difficult to achieve a cohesive Europe and foster social trust in the institution represented by the European Union. The main objective was for the project's target group to understand local issues related to sustainability, unemployment, social inequality, racism, and more. Additionally, following recent crises such as the global pandemic, the climate crisis, economic recession, and the rise of ultranationalist and anti-European movements, communities have suffered a significant economic and social impact. This has led to a widespread feeling of alienation, hopelessness, and distrust in institutions. Individualism has gained strength across Europe and the world, opposing the collective unity needed for shared progress. To restore and raise awareness of this unity, it is crucial that people have access to real well-being at the local level.
