FLASH-RET aimed to enhance learning outcomes, improve student learning and retention by providing teachers with evidence-based strategies to implement retrieval practice using flashcards enhancing their ability to implement them. Our objectives were: - INCREASING TEACHER EFFECTIVENESS: Equipping teachers with resources, and training them in the effective use of retrieval practice with flashcards to enhance classroom instruction and ensure that teaching leads to better learning outcomes. - PROMOTE STUDENTS AUTONOMOUS LEARNING: The training of teachers in the use of flashcards provided students the knowledge to use flashcards effectively, promoting autonomous learning and long-term retention. - DEVELOPMENT OF HIGH-QUALITY EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES: Creating a handbook, teacher training materials, and ready-to-use flashcards examples to facilitate the adoption of retrieval practice strategies, such as flashcards, in different subjects and age groups. - DISSEMINATION THE PROJECT RESULTS: Sharing results via Erasmus+ platforms, events, and digital resources to ensure long-term impact beyond the immediate participating organisations.
The FLASH-RET project was developed to address a critical gap in the use of evidence-based retrieval practice techniques, specifically flashcards, in school education. Despite extensive research demonstrating the benefits of flashcards, many teachers lack the knowledge, training, or resources to implement it effectively. Flashcards, a simple yet powerful tool, are often underutilized or misapplied in classrooms. Our partnership identified a need for structured teacher training and high-quality, ready-to-use materials to bridge the gap between research and practice. Additionally, students, particularly those with learning difficulties, can benefit significantly from structured retrieval strategies, but often lack guidance on how to apply them independently. We applied for this project to provide practical solutions (handbook, teacher training, classroom pilots, and flashcard materials) all supported by rigorous scientific research. By equipping teachers with effective tools and methodologies, we aimed to enhance student learning outcomes, promote active learning, and contribute to evidence-based education. This project aligned with EU priorities, fostering inclusive and high-quality education across different European contexts.
