Objectives

- Develop critical awareness among students regarding the current environmental situation by studying the most pressing environmental issues and comparing them with other environmental areas in order to gain a global perspective and find common strategies for protecting natural areas. - Encourage students to participate and get involved in solving these problems by creating an Environmental Volunteer Club responsible for raising awareness and protecting the environment. - Create an Environmental Volunteer Club in both centers, committed to carrying out at least two environmental volunteer actions throughout the school year, accompanied by training on the subject through collaboration with local entities. - Compare the characteristics of different ecosystems, in this case the Mediterranean and continental ecosystems, and see what they have in common and what their peculiarities are in terms of current environmental problems. - Create a teaching guide between the two participating schools to help other schools implement the Environmental Volunteer Club.

Background

We requested this project because we detected certain shortcomings in our students, such as: - Lack of knowledge or superficial knowledge of global environmental problems and their immediate surroundings. - Lack of motivation among students to get involved in solving environmental problems or lack of knowledge of how to do so. - Absence of a guide to encourage the creation of volunteer groups in schools. All of this showed us the need to encourage students to learn about their immediate environment and its problems, to enhance their critical thinking and participatory attitude, to enable them to get involved in solving environmental problems through teamwork and selfless volunteer work, to break with the preconceived idea that it is impossible to curb serious environmental problems through small actions, and the more specific need to create an educational guide that could be useful for other schools that share the same concerns and would like to set up an Environmental Volunteer Club in their schools.
