Objectives

Assuming as our own the global need identified by the UN in the 2030 Agenda, “Combatting climate change,” the three educational centres also identified the need for internationalisation, the creation of transnational networks, and the improvement of digital skills and English-language communication. In more detail, we aimed to achieve: 1º Environmental awareness: -Lack of knowledge about the serious environmental challenges we face. -Awareness of the need to increase, as much as possible, the use of sustainable means of transport, especially bicycles in the school setting. -Learning how to properly recycle plastic containers and reduce their use. -Use of local ingredients instead of globalised ones. -Awareness of the importance of preserving and understanding natural and cultural heritage. 2º Digitalisation: Improvement of digital skills through responsible use of new technologies and office software. 3º Internationalisation: Improvement of communication skills in English. Increased tolerance towards other cultures. Identifying oneself as part of Europe’s cultural richness and diversity.

Background

At Profesores de Almendralejo, after two previous Erasmus projects, we had observed the profound impact that this type of initiative has on the entire educational community. After analysing our needs and motivations (SWOT), we quickly identified what our priorities for the project should be. They needed to be related to environmental awareness, the improvement of digital and linguistic skills, and raising awareness of belonging to an inclusive Europe. This led us to start conversations with former partners and to look for new ones. We sought a balance between what each partner could contribute and what they needed to receive. In this way, TG-AC and the partnership among the three schools came into being. The environmental needs and challenges we currently face, and which will extend to future generations, are widely known. For this reason, in line with the Strategic Agenda of the European Commission and the guidelines of the United Nations through its 17 Sustainable Development Goals approved by the UN in 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda, we have joined the plan to achieve these objectives.
