With Think Green!, we aimed to promote responsible, sustainable behaviour among students, starting with their immediate surroundings: school, home, and city. We wanted to address climate change through education, using critical thinking and collaborative work to reflect on our daily habits and transform them. The project encouraged students to adopt eco-friendly practices such as recycling, composting, cleaning natural areas, and reducing the use of paper, water, and electricity. We also sought to strengthen European cooperation through environmental action, fostering shared responsibility and solidarity. The project offered students opportunities to connect with others across the continent, exchanging good practices and learning together. In short, we aimed to raise awareness and build lasting habits of care for the planet through education. Our objective was to provide an active, interdisciplinary approach to environmental learning that combines theory and hands-on experiences, motivating students to act, reflect, and lead change.
We applied for Think Green! in response to a shared concern across our schools: the need to strengthen environmental awareness and sustainability education among students. Although these topics were occasionally addressed, they were not fully integrated into school culture or student habits. We aimed to promote long-term behavioural change by embedding green values across disciplines and daily life. The project addressed a lack of motivation and civic engagement among students by connecting learning with real-world ecological challenges. Through collaborative, creative, and practical activities, we sought to develop critical thinking, intercultural dialogue, and a stronger sense of European identity. It also responded to teachers’ needs for pedagogical innovation and international cooperation, offering a platform to share good practices and enhance the European dimension of education. Think Green! was conceived as a way to transform environmental education into an active, cross-border experience that empowers youth to lead sustainable change.
