Objectives

The main objectives of the project were achieved over the two years of its duration. Through various activities, workshops, and dynamics, participants acquired greater knowledge and awareness of their abilities, limitations, and emotions, respecting differences and valuing them positively. Furthermore, thanks to collaborative activities at the European level and mobility, students and teachers improved their English, Spanish, and even Portuguese language skills. The nature of most of the activities also enhanced strategies for identifying mental health needs in preadolescents and increased existing knowledge on the subject. Regarding the practical aspect, we participated in workshops, in which students developed self-awareness strategies, tools for resolving internal conflicts, and self-esteem. In short, we promoted the emotional well-being of students by facilitating access to all students and thus addressing learning disadvantages. We also raised awareness and sensitized the entire educational community to the need to contribute from the school level.

Background

The project proposal stemmed from the need to address emotional education in the classroom. Students are increasingly curious and require greater attention to the emotions, thoughts, and feelings they harbor in their minds. The proposal focused on the fifth and sixth grades of primary school, as preadolescence and adolescence are vital stages in which fostering emotional well-being and mental health is especially important. These ages witness the process of leaving childhood behind, events such as increased responsibilities, hormonal changes, and the increased importance placed on external validation, which often lead to greater vulnerability and emotional instability. In this regard, a participatory assessment was conducted with students, teachers, and families, allowing us to address the most immediate needs of both schools, in Spain and Portugal. All of this has been possible thanks to the project's funding, which has allowed us to conduct workshops in schools aimed at improving students' emotional well-being and to form a multidisciplinary group of professionals in teaching, pedagogy, and community psychology.
