Objectives

The main objectives we wanted to achieve were: -Encourage inclusion and the digital dimension: to attract students with fewer opportunities to the school environment, promoting diversity, inclusion and digital competences. -To create an innovative and inclusive school: to recognise and enhance the capabilities of students with special educational needs (SEN). Promoting key social values: fostering social participation, non-discrimination, equality, democracy and respect for human rights. -Strengthening international cooperation: improving cultural and educational understanding between groups from different countries, incorporating as much innovation as possible in teaching methods. -To develop active European citizens. And to export the values of the European Union to all educational contexts. -Reducing early school leaving: intensifying efforts to prevent early school leaving, especially in vulnerable environments. -Improve communication between the education community. -Linking school with home and community. -Act with environmental sustainability. -Promote multilingualism and digital competences. -Encourage educational networking events. -To educate European citizens.

Background

This project was born out of the concern of families with children with special needs for the future of their children. After analysing studies on students with special educational needs (SEN), we have identified that biological, environmental and psychological problems affect millions of children around the world, limiting their cognitive development. According to recent estimates, there are 15 million children with SEN in Europe (European Commission, 2014). Many of them leave school with few credentials and face an increased risk of unemployment or economic inactivity, which challenges or truncates their parents' dreams. In short, they are often perceived by society as ‘inefficient’ or ‘unskilled’. Faced with this reality, our project seeks to create an inclusive and innovative school, transforming schools into learning communities with a strong sense of mutual support. We want the school to be a desirable space for all, regardless of their differences, and to provide them with the necessary tools to become active citizens. Inclusive education is the most effective way to foster solidarity between students with SEN and their peers. We consider the goals of the 2030 Agenda to be fundamental.
