Through the implementation of the TECHGROW project we wanted to improve access and knowledge on technological watch processes to the current and future workers that make up the European traditional manufacturing industry (concretely footwear, textile and furniture sectors), with the final aim of boosting the implementation of innovative processes. The achieved SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES of the project are the following: SO1. Identify key sources of information and watch factors for companies of traditional manufacturing sectors and provide a methodology to do it. SO2. Offer pioneer training resources, free and open to current and future workers and VET providers. SO3. Facilitate systematic Technology Watch processes through innovative virtual platforms. SO4. Improve current and future VET offer on Technology Watch through the provided training resources and recommendations guide.
We applied for the TECHGROW project because it addresses a critical need for SMEs in traditional manufacturing sectors to remain informed and competitive in a rapidly evolving market. Many of these businesses acknowledge the importance of monitoring market and technological trends to stay relevant; however, they often lack a structured approach to systematically implement such practices. As highlighted in the New Industrial Strategy for the EU, Technology Watch (TW) is essential to driving technological sovereignty and fostering modernization through structured tracking and analysis of information. Despite its importance, studies reveal that less than 25% of companies have received training on TW practices, even though a significant majority express their interest. TECHGROW tackles this training gap by offering resources and innovative training materials designed to enhance TW knowledge, particularly within the furniture, footwear, and textile sectors. This initiative supports the development of an innovative VET ecosystem. Moreover, TECHGROW has improved access to systematic TW digital platforms, empowering SMEs, VET providers, and industry associations to strengthen TW practices across the European manufacturing landscape.
