Objectives

The aims of the project were: - To promote schools’ preparedness and teachers’ professional development to increase the quality of global education in schools and teachers’ training through anti-racist innovative pedagogical methodologies and practices. - To develop training for teachers on anti-racist pedagogies. - Promote anti-racism and active citizenship among students - To offer recommendations to schools and school managers on anti-racist global education.

Background

The idea for the project arose from the need for the council's education department to tackle the problem of racism in the municipality's schools. In meetings held by the technical staff with secondary school teachers, racism was identified as one of the main threats in schools. Teachers had detected certain behaviours in students that required attention. Subsequently, at coordination meetings held by all departments of the Municipality, the European projects department was asked to seek funding for this idea. Our European projects department contacted the EURORESO network, of which we are a member, presented the project, and the consortium was formed. In the project, we wanted to do more than just tackle racism with the students; we wanted something more structural. Therefore, we decided that the best approach was to involve teachers as anti-racism agents so that we could continue the fight against this problem in the years to come.
