Background

Specialized literature and international educational organizations recognize a growing need to promote education for sustainability to facilitate the development of key competencies in primary school students. Environmental education at an early age is crucial for fostering a deeper connection with nature and instilling a sense of care and improved environmental management. Outdoor learning experiences, in the school garden or greenhouse, facilitate students' connection with nature and with local traditional agricultural values. Implementing common educational practices in schools across different European education systems creates opportunities to interconnect common solutions and challenges, merging local and global perspectives on education for sustainability. The identified needs were focused on training teachers to implement selected best practices in sustainable education across European primary schools with their students, improving their knowledge to develop innovative teaching to face environmental impacts, by promoting innovative teaching methods both outdoors and in the classroom, offering opportunities for personal development.
