Objectives

The main objective of the project was to foster a love of reading among students and to improve their digital competences. It also aimed to provide a meaningful intercultural experience, especially for students with fewer opportunities, allowing them to discover other realities and broaden their worldview. In addition, the project was inspired to promote values such as tolerance, respect, and empathy, while also encouraging inclusion and attention to diversity in the classroom. It was expected that students would develop critical thinking skills, autonomy in learning, and greater ability in both oral and written expression.

Background

The project was designed to address the low interest in reading and limited digital skills among Secondary Education students (12-16 years) from a low socioeconomic background. It also aimed to promote values such as tolerance, respect, and empathy, and provide international experiences to broaden horizons. Designed after identifying poor reading performance and limited technology access, it included in-person and online workshops, debates, diary creation, and school radio programs (podcasts, surveys, interviews). Currently, our students show increased interest in reading, more books read on their own initiative, improved oral expression and digital skills, and strengthened critical thinking and autonomy. Thus, the impact was highly positive, fostering integration, autonomous learning, and academic and personal development.
