Objectives

When applying for the project, the aim was to demonstrate the potential of new technologies, particularly virtual reality, to improve technical training in areas such as automotive, IT, health, electronics, etc. The main objective was to create virtual resources that would allow any educational centre to access practical scenarios safely, at an affordable cost and without compromising on educational quality. The project also aimed to train teachers in the use of these technologies, giving them the autonomy to create their own digital content and apply inclusion and accessibility criteria to their educational resources. These objectives have been achieved through the development of several educational Virtual Reality applications and the creation of two courses hosted on the Moodle platform: one technical course for training teachers in the use of CoSpaces/Delightex and another specific course on inclusion and accessibility applied to digital environments. To ensure the dissemination and sustainability of the results, a project website was also created to centralise all the materials developed and allow open access to the educational community.

Background

We requested this project to respond to an obvious need in vocational training centres: many do not have sufficient resources to carry out complex or costly practical cases, which are essential for developing technical skills. In addition, there are training cycles that involve working with tools that initially pose risks to students, forcing teachers to exercise extreme supervision. It was necessary to find a sustainable alternative that would allow these environments to be simulated safely and without high economic costs. Virtual Reality offers this possibility by recreating real technical environments in a controlled context, where students can learn and practise. However, there was a clear lack of teacher training and capacity to create their own educational content, and it was essential to ensure that these technologies were accessible to all students. The project was designed to address these shortcomings by creating educational applications in Virtual Reality and developing two courses: one technical course on CoSpaces (renamed Delightex during the project) and another on inclusion and accessibility, generating open resources for the entire community.
