Evgen Bavcar is a totally blind photographer, he came to photography after his loss of visibility since it marked him when he was still barely twelve years old. Slovenian, he emigrated to Paris where he studied Philosophy and continued his love affair with photography. History that he had begun at the age of sixteen when he portrayed a young woman with whom he was in love. That act was a way of appropriating something that did not belong to him. "Every photo I take I have to have it perfectly arranged in my head before shooting. I bring the camera to the level of my mouth and that way I photograph the people I am listening to speak. The autofocus helps me, but I know how to fend for myself myself. It's simple. The hands measure the distance and the rest is done by the desire for an image that exists in me." Could there be anything more inspiring for people with functional diversity? Is there something impossible for people with visual difficulties when reading these words? All the people who promote this project have found this character and his work lived in a context of visual disability especially inspiring. On the one hand, visual functional diversity faces the emotional charge that drifts towards other sensory capacities in the face of a world created and oriented towards rationality, where almost everything enters through the eyes. But can we abstract for a moment from the merely earthly towards the most sensitive? This project aims to put photography at the service of the perceptions of both those who do not have visual problems and those who do. People with full visual capacity will give it up to enter an unknown world, a fact that we will share with people with visual difficulties. We want to give meaning to functional diversity and generate new sensitivities for people without apparent disabilities. The general objective of this project is to create a wide group of participants from various European countries sensitive to the reality faced by people with visual difficulties using photography as a vehicle for inclusion and promotion of diversity. The specific objectives are detailed in the attached program of activities, linked to them and their methods.
