Objectives

We were there, we benefitted from it, we keep on sharing it with others and want all the young people that we meet to experience what we experienced! 5 years ago, some young people from the Associaicó Alba presented the opportunity to do something different; move away from our comfort zone and live our lives from another way perspective, they achieved the unthinkable, a group of people with disabilities and with fewer opportunities to leave their comfort zone completed a 120 km route. The professionals in Malta organization presented us with the opportunity to do this through the Camino de Santiago and now, we want to live it again. This has positively impacted our lives. We have the opportunity to meet young people, discuss with them the challenges they face they face and what goals they would like to aspire to during "the Path trip" project. This project has been written and designed through the discussions with the young people and the needs they presented. Its main aim is to give a positive outlook in life to the participants involved. Through this youth exchange the young people will be meeting young people from other countries coming from disadvantaged backgrounds with some of the participants having physical and intellectual disabilities and some of them digicultes lives. The young people are involved through the different phases of the project allowing them to connect, be engaged and be empowered. Through the preparation meetings, hands-on activities during the mobility and follow-up activities the young people will have the possibility to learn many new things. In particular, they will focus more on in-person socialisation, the inclusio, the authonomy, the importance of having a positive outlook and to take lead in their own lives. The young people participating in the project are going through a lot of changes and they are in a phase in their life where they explore questions of identity and start thinking more about their future. Through this project, the young people will get to know more themselves and work on their social skills. The young people will also learn to focus on the good things in life. Challenging situations and obstacles are part of life as symbolised by the hills, mountains and long walks to reach from one destination to another. However, the young people will learn how through this all they can practice gratitude, be open to spend time with positive people and reflect on the beauty in their lives. This will help them in moments of negativity as it will prepare them to shift their focus and practice positive self-talk. The daily reflection and Youthpass time will aid them to do this. The participants will also learn to set short and long-term goals tied their visions and dreams. With the help of the youth leaders, they will be working on goal-setting and the young people will be receiving further support to achieve their goals daily. When working on goal-setting, the young people will also be facing their fears. Through the activities they will also be learning to appreciate other people and see value in others and embrace new ideas and opportunities helping them to develop a positive outlook in life.
