We wanted to implement this project because many of the young people we work with have been affected by isolation and social separation and by the negative impact that the separation and isolation had on them. That happened for all of them due to the pandemic which impeded them to meet naturally with their peers and engage in group activities, cancelling many opportunities of learning and exchanging with their peers and affecting their emotional and mental wellbeing. Some of our participants are musicians or artists, and their sector was one of those who suffered the most from the restrictions imposed. The state of isolation due to the lockdowns and restrictions applied for 3 years caused traumas, depressive states and reduced pro-activity and social skills. That happened for some of them also because of their extra-European background, their physical and cultural diversity: they live separated from the rest of their local society, often in communities with people with the same nationality, that increases even more the sense of isolation and the negative consequences on their mental and emotional well-being. Some others live in isolated areas and the restrictions increased even more their isolation. The main objectives of the exchange were: - Bring young people from different countries together and use music, art and performances as a tool to heal their loneliness and reduce sense of isolation. - Create a safe space where the participants can meet, talk, identify more deeply and express how the pandemic affected them and work together to find solutions, experience different techniques to improve their emotional and mental well-being. - Offer our young people the opportunity to come into contact with other young people who had an interest in music, exchange opinions, competencies and increase their network. - Improve their ability to take care of their mental and physical wellbeing by themselves after the exchange - Share with our partners and learn from each other’s: from one side share our approach to music and exchange activities and good practices focused on the therapeutic use of music; from the other side learn about non formal education methods in the context of wellbeing and implementation of youth exchanges. - Bring more dynamism to Almería, more enthusiasm for music and performances through some actions in the city that connected us with more young people and with the local population in general. Through this project we had a similar impact on the village of Terque, in Almeria province. - Increase the sense of European belonging of our young people and their ability to access European opportunities. Our approach to the project was based on the European Youth Strategy 2019 – 2027 and on the key concept of connecting, engaging and empowering young people and it focused on some of the 11 Youth Goals: - Connecting EU with Youth: By including young migrants this project allowed them to understand more about the European way of functioning, about moving in Europe, about the European cultures and it was an important step to see their diversity as a richness, in the European cultural diversity panorama and to root the sense of belonging to the European project. - Inclusive Societies: Involving the mentioned youngsters and young people with other fewer opportunities was a concreate inclusive action towards them and supported them in getting out from their state of isolation and access to opportunities that they could never access to. - Mental Health & Wellbeing: This was the core area of the exchange and the main goals of the exchange were to improve the mental and emotional wellbeing of young people and to give them the tools to improve it also back home by using music and other tools learned during the exchange. - Moving Rural Youth Forward: it is related especially with the Greek partner and the young people they involved in the project, who were young people living in a small town and cannot access the same services and opportunities like in a city. This project supports them in compensating this gap. Also implementing the majority of the project in the rural village of Terque contributed to reach this goal. - Space and Participation for All: by involving the young people with fewer opportunities and because of the way this project was set: a space of co-creation where the young people are protagonists and can orient their learning.
