All the heroes(heroes) from Joan of Arc, King Arthur, Malcolm X to Frodo Baggins and Peter Parker and other real and fantasy world characters have some values that they are following. They also followed certain paths to become legends and heroes(ines) in their universes. But nowadays the world of heroes is always more distant from youthful reality and confined to fantastic and cinematographic universes in such a way that they are no longer a direct reference but rather a utopia. With this project we want to shorten this distance and put young people on a heroic journey that is within their reach and where it can be recognized, so we decided to create a classic heroic narrative inserted in an urban context. Our youth are like heroes, they walk the path of knowledge about youth activism and empowerment by following the steps of the Hero's Journey methodology (which is a story structure involving a hero(ine) (young) who ventures ( in the project itself), emerges victorious from challenges (anything that is challenging - travelling abroad, new cultures, debates, teamwork...) and returns home changed or transformed). When the Catalan group started planning this project, they introduced the theme of youth activism and the values to support it. And the journey has begun. With the help of a youth worker from a Serbian organisation, the youngsters talked about the values that activists hold, what drives them, that they are their heroes and heroines. They decided to find out more, from young people from different backgrounds and countries. So they invited partner organisations and asked them to debate with young people from all partner organisations to find out who are the heroes and heroines they like and why, what values they have, and gave the young people the homework to make a brief research on youth activism in their communities. Here they compare different realities and notice that most of the young people do not participate in politics or government decisions, that young people mainly participate in youth exchanges, activities and actions organised by others, they do not create activities by themselves. Youth in all countries are not as engaged in local activities In rural communities, the situation is even worse, with low level youth activism and youth participation in decision-making. The brewing process is not well presented to young people. For the most part, they never hear about such opportunities, because young people are not involved in most of those with fewer opportunities (economic, geographic, educational, social). Each partner already has a group of young people facing different obstacles. They grow up in a world that promotes democracy, activism, openness, cooperation, tolerance, solidarity, etc. (positive values), but they are not informed, they face discrimination, stereotypes, prejudices. With the influence of globalisation phenomena and the Covid-19 pandemic in the world, young people, especially those with fewer opportunities, are especially affected. The school system did not respond in the best way in distance education, physical distance disturbs the mental health of young people, they feel that they are not respected and their opinion is not valued because some restrictive measures prevent them from travelling, using education programs informal, to socialise with other young people, to participate in youth work, to communicate their needs/problems/challenges, to get involved in making changes in the community, all social life has come to a standstill and still is. It is difficult to be young at the present moment in all our countries. That is why we enter the world of heroes(ines) (represented by the perception of values) to produce magic in our community and rethink the current values and possibilities of young people, new heroes, to participate in the community and send messages of youth voice to other youth to engage, connect and empower themselves. The aim of the project is to engage, connect and empower young people, including those with fewer opportunities to become responsible, active, critically aware and supportive citizens in the local and European community. Objectives: • Empower young people with fewer opportunities from passive consumer behaviour to active participation while taking care of the gender perspective. • Support youth advocacy and activism within youth empowerment as an outcome in which youth as agents of change gain the skills to impact their own lives and the lives of other youth and communities as a whole. • To experience multiculturalism through meeting and working with young people from different cultural backgrounds • To discover new approaches to non-formal learning that influence youth participation. • Become aware of the European Union as a community and take advantage of the opportunities of the Erasmus+ program as a tool for the development of a culture of youth participation.
