The project “European Youth Goals: engaging disadvantaged youngsters” emerges from YPA Spain’s commitment to empowering youth workers (and respectively, young people), and aligns with the inclusive vision set by the European Union’s Youth Strategy 2019-2027. By implementing this project, we aimed to bridge the gap between the objectives outlined at the EU level and their effective implementation at the local level, especially within disadvantaged youth groups. As the European Commission identified, the 11 Youth Goals reflect the views of European youth and represent the vision of those active in the EU Youth Dialogue 2017/2018. However, and as it was reported by the youth member organizations at the YPA coalition, Youth Goals are not always reaching local and engaging disadvantaged youth groups. Hence, YPA Spain, jointly with its partners, designed, organized, and implemented this project with the clear need to promote and clarify the importance of the real practices of these youth goals for the engagement of disadvantaged youth groups. In order to do so, our methodology was to enhance and improve the awareness of youth workers with regards to the topic as to ensure a successful impact and engagement the youth they are working with. Accordingly, the project was proposed and co-designed, and concluded to focus on the European Youth Goals as an effective guide and inspiration that could provide youth workers around Europe and neighboring countries a real overview of the needs in the youth field. Consequently, the main objectives of the training were: - Increase the knowledge of youth workers on the EU Youth Strategy & the 11 Youth Goals developed - Exchange country-based & organization-based best practices implemented among disadvantaged youth groups for the enhancement of the 11 Youth Goals - Enhancing the quality of youth work through providing youth workers with better knowledge, skills & competences to implement & develop quality projects for the benefit of disadvantaged youth groups. More concretely, the specific objectives of the project were: • Provide the necessary resources & tools to enable youth workers to work in accordance with the European Union Youth Strategy 2019-2027 • Use & promote innovative, digital & non-formal education tools to improve the understanding & practice in the field • Reflect on global good & bad practices in the field in order to build models for better implementation • To encourage youth workers to promote & work towards the European Union Youth Strategy 2019-2027 goals • Improve the work quality, knowledge, skills & attitudes of participating youth workers regarding the EU youth strategy so as to transfer the acquired expertise to the youngsters they work Throughout the training, participating youth workers and their respective organizations have been empowered with the skills, knowledge, and enthusiasm necessary for fostering discussions concerning the EU Youth Strategy. Specifically, they have honed their understanding of the 11 Youth Goals and recognized their potential as a guiding framework and wellspring of inspiration, particularly in their endeavors with disadvantaged youth groups. Consequently, the positive outcomes have not only manifested in the augmented capabilities of the youth workers and their organizations, but also amplified the integration of the 11 Youth Goals into practical, impactful initiatives within their communities. This integration is poised to foster a more inclusive and proactive approach towards addressing the needs and aspirations of youth, particularly those facing socio-economic challenges.
