The primary goal of our project, "From the Ground Up," was to address the narrow opportunities for professional growth that youth workers often face, which can lead to a loss of enthusiasm and motivation. This, in turn, can negatively impact the overall performance of NGOs. By recognizing the larger role that each specific phase plays in the larger story of their life, youth workers can navigate difficult times with clarity and compassion for themselves and others. To achieve this, we focused on the exploration and creation of personal myths, inspired by Joseph Campbell's concept that myths provide clues to the spiritual meaning of life. Our training course (TC) was based on the work of Sharon Blackie, specifically her book "If Women Rose Rooted," which intertwines her personal life story with the myths she explores. The idea was to help youth workers develop their own life stories—their own myths—based on their values and aspirations, providing them with a personal and professional road map. The specific objectives of our project were: To provide a safe environment for 26 youth workers (+3 team members) to personally and experientially explore the eight myths presented by Sharon Blackie in her book "If Women Rose Rooted. For each youth worker to develop their own personal myth and envision possible future phases of their professional development. To foster greater empathy and a stronger commitment to environmental preservation and sustainability among participants by increasing their sense of connection to nature. To establish a peer support network for participating youth workers that will last beyond the project's time frame. To provide a minimum of two consecutive follow-up activities per partner in order to share the methodology and ideas of "From the Ground Up" with other members of the partner organization, as well as the youth who are their target group. By incorporating myths, storytelling, and nature into our training course, we aimed to offer a rich and engaging learning experience that would empower individuals working in the field of youth. This approach not only aligns with but also advances the objectives of the Erasmus+ programme and the Youth Workers Mobility initiative. We believe that through these improvements, local communities will grow into a more powerful, strong, and robust European community, equipped to handle complex challenges with assurance, clarity, and a focus on solutions.
