This project was carried out with young people from our community with the aim of providing them with the opportunity to experience new places and perspectives. During the youth meetings we organized at our association, we always considered the opinions of all participants, which allowed us to identify a series of needs and shortcomings they wished to address. The needs that young people highlighted in these meetings were the following: Young people with geographical difficulties were able to overcome these barriers. Acquisition of skills to navigate different environments. Broadening of horizons. Inclusive needs, especially for young people with fewer opportunities, whether economic or geographical. Development of broader social connections with young people from other countries. Needs for exploration and discovery, exploring new ways of thinking and seeing the world. Need to improve English and learn new languages. The specific objectives we set out to address during our project, in response to the needs raised by the young people, were the following: Achieving teamwork and promoting genuine cooperation. Strengthen ties among participants and foster camaraderie. Improve communication and expressive skills in other languages, particularly English. Develop exploration tools that would be useful both in their country of origin and abroad. Expand networks of contacts, which was essential for the future of our youth. Develop the youth's capacity for independence. Learn useful digital tools for navigating different environments, such as Google Maps and virtual credit cards for currency exchange, among others. Develop values of inclusion, respect, equality, and non-discrimination, since contact with such a diverse range of people and unique experiences would promote fundamental values for good civic development. Internalize and raise awareness of techniques that directly care for the environment, such as using cleaner and more energy-efficient means of transportation, supporting local businesses, reducing plastic use, and consuming food responsibly. As an overall objective, we considered it essential to foster youth independence and autonomy. Traveling by train through different countries and cities required the young people to make decisions and solve problems independently, which fostered their self-confidence and ability to fend for themselves.
