Our objective is to learn more about adding multisensory content to our exhibitions from the perspectives of design, production and maintenance. We aim to find new ideas, new production methods and knowledge about good practices. We also need information and experiences about the maintenance of multisensory exhibition elements and the challenges they might set. We will increase our knowledge about digital solutions that could support multisensory experience (f.ex. AR, VR and XR solutions). We believe that discussions about these themes with colleagues will able also mutual learning about other aspects of working with exhibitions. We want to create new networks of organizations as well as individuals, and connect with colleagues and museums doing interesting and progressive work. These networks will able collaboration (f.ex. exhibition change and collaborative productions) and peer learning also in the future.
The near future of Turku Museum Centre includes several large exhibition renewal and development projects as well as a totally new museum. We need to broaden our knowledge about new kinds of ways of presentation. Traditionally museum exhibitions are experienced visually. We want to add to our exhibitions new multisensory elements to better include different kinds of audiences and learners. However, we need more information about good executions. Our previous projects funded by Erasmus+ have enabled learning from other organizations and their good practices. This gathered knowledge has been utilized in practice, for example in the development and renewal of the Luostarinmäki Museum Quarter. We have been able to create networks that we can use also in the future. The mobility periods have also increased our staff’s motivation and given new impulses.
