Promoting international teaching and studying is a central element in Aalto University strategy. Internationalization of education is about integrating global dimension in the curricula and in the teaching and learning processes. The aim of internationalizing education is to educate globally competent graduates. Participation in the Erasmus+ programme enhances mobility, develops individuals' competences and promotes internationalization within the campus community. Involvement in the programme also increases university's global visibility and creates more opportunities for students and staff to engage in international mobility and networking. Internationalizing the campus as a whole cultivates multicultural study environments and provides opportunities for students to learn how to collaborate in diverse, global teams. At Aalto University, a key objective of the Erasmus+ project activities is to integrate essential global competences into every student's learning outcomes. We have been able to fund an increasing number of student and staff mobilities in 2023-24 and answer to the high demand for mobilities to our Erasmus+ partner universities. From 22/23 academic year we have seen a significant increase in the number of Erasmus mobilities, i.e., interest towards mobilities to European partners. The number of outgoing exchange students was higher already in the academic year 22/23 than pre-covid (opposite to the national trend). We do not see any signs of the European destinations becoming less attractive in the coming years, students (and staff) value e.g., safety, sustainability (shorter travel distances), Erasmus+ scholarship sums, quality and European values. Participation in the Erasmus+ programme facilitates investing in strong partnerships for example by pooling resources in developing BIP courses with partners. Erasmus+ activities play a crucial role in maintaining a focus on the international aspects of our activities in all levels. For Aalto University, internationalization and engagement with the Erasmus+ programme is about advancing the quality of education, research and artistic output.
