Objectives

The primary objective of the mobility project was to advance the internationalization and international competences of Laurea’s students and staff by promoting participation in mobility activities as well as creating opportunities for internationalization at Home. In addition to supporting outgoing mobilities, we wanted to welcome incoming students and staff, as well as implement Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs). These efforts significantly contribute to the development of Internationalization at Home, particularly benefiting the majority of students, who are either unable or unwilling to go to a long-term mobility such as semester- or year-long exchanges or traineeships. Staff mobility initiatives frequently serve as a platform for planning joint teaching activities, which in turn enhance opportunities for student engagement in short-term mobility or Internationalization at Home experiences. At Laurea, multicultural competencies and international skills are recognized as key employability attributes and are an important part of the curriculum as key learning objectives, and with the Erasmus+ funding we hoped to improve our students’ possibilities for gaining the competences through mobilities. We also wanted to strengthen our collaboration with our partners in countries not associated to the Erasmus+ Programme with the new global opportunity, since we had not been able to send students with our own grants in the past few years. Furthermore, staff mobilities, either for training or for teaching, support the professional development and job satisfaction of personnel which we hoped to increase with the project. These exchanges foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing among partner institutions, strengthen Laurea’s international network, and showcase the capabilities of mobile students and trainees. They also play a vital role in the successful delivery of BIP courses, which was one of the biggest aims. Overall, staff mobility has proven to be a valuable mechanism for enhancing the quality of education through shared pedagogical practices and mutual learning among colleagues and partner institutions, and Erasmus+ funding allowed us to develop these aspects further.
