We had three objectives: equal opportunities, promote sustainability as value and increasing consciousness of Piispala’s international youth work. 1. Equal opportunities. We wanted to offer international experiences to the young people with fewer opportunities living the Northern Central Finland. In our region, young people live in remote locations in municipalities that have small number of inhabitants (1000-10 000). They do not have many opportunities to experience different cultures and get to know people with different backgrounds. Similarly, the youth workers may work alone and have few resources to develop their professional skills. Through Piispala’s international activities we wanted to offer equal opportunities for the young people and youth workers to have international experiences and opportunities to develop themselves personally and professionally. 2. Promotion of sustainability as a value. We focused on supporting the awareness of the sustainability as a value among young people and youth workers by showing how we can live more sustainably on this planet. Sustainability is in the core values of Piispala’s operations and in our activities. We show how to respect the nature and how small actions can lead to a big difference. Young people across Europe share concerns about the state of our planet, therefore it is important to share experiences, worries and tips for sustainable living. 3. Through the increase of consciousness of Piispala’s international youth work we aimed at highlighting the positive impact of international experiences on the young people and the local community. Our objective was to bring awareness of international activities that are organised by Piispala for the local youth and youth workers after COVID-19. We wanted to show that internationality brings a lot of value to young people and that they can become international citizens by participating in Piispala’s international activities.
