This project was rooted in Sorin Sirkus’s long-term strategic goal to strengthen the impact, accessibility, and international dimension of youth work through circus. Our aim was to create real opportunities for young people and youth workers to develop their competences, grow in an intercultural environment, and engage as part of the European community in ways that support their own agency and societal participation. Internationality was not an end in itself, but a means to deliver high-quality youth work and to deepen the work we do locally and nationally. A central goal was to enhance young people's participation and to offer them opportunities to grow into European citizens through concrete shared activities and encounters. Special attention was given to ensuring the inclusion of those young people and youth workers who typically have fewer opportunities for international engagement due to social, economic, or geographical barriers. We also aimed to give young people a chance to plan and implement activities themselves, to learn about their role in a group, and to recognise their own potential as part of a wider community. For youth workers and circus professionals, the goal was to offer opportunities for peer support, professional development, and the adoption of new pedagogical tools and methods that promote accessibility. We aimed to strengthen their capacity to work in diverse groups, manage international cooperation, and reflect on their role in building safe and inclusive spaces. The project was also driven by a desire to make Sorin Sirkus’s international operations more strategic and sustainable. We wanted to build structures that support ongoing international collaboration, quality assurance, and knowledge sharing, thereby reinforcing our position in the field of international youth and social circus. Through this project, we sought to showcase the strengths of Finnish youth work, network with organisations sharing similar values, and develop new ways to combine arts education, youth work, and social impact. Strengthening cooperation with the Caravan network was one of the key objectives. A shared understanding of accessible and equitable youth work developed within the network lays the foundation for long-term development. We wanted to play an active role in creating new collaborative projects, developing training content, and contributing to a shared strategic direction for European youth work. At the core of all these objectives was the idea that international mobility is not a stand-alone activity but is closely linked to the everyday development of youth work. We wanted to build bridges between young people and adult professionals, to connect expertise across sectors, and to reinforce the idea that everyone has the right to participate, learn, and influence – from their own starting point. This project gave us the opportunity to advance this work with determination, in collaboration with actors from different countries, backgrounds, and fields.
