The main objective of the project were to support higher education institutions to offer digital learning experiences that are inclusive and equitable for all. The specific objectives were to: 1) Build the competences of academics, learning designers, and teaching staff in designing inclusive elearning courses; 2 Develop a Universal Design for Digital Inclusion Toolkit, a training course for university staff, and a platform with OER repository on designing inclusive curricula in higher education; 3) To raise awareness on the need to be inclusive in the new digital era, and lastly; 4) Improve the supply of quality higher education opportunities for all. The project focused on supporting a digital transition in which participation of all students is established, especially those at risk of marginalisation due to diverse needs.
Digital learning has become an integral part of higher education. While creating a set of positive developments, digital learning has also intensified existing inequities among learners within education systems. Vulnerable and minority students with diverse backgrounds in terms of gender, ethnicity, financial status, abilities, and educational needs, have been suffering from digital exclusion, having limited support to deal with the additional obstacle of remote learning. Disadvantages usually associate with low finance that restricts access to digital technologies, lack of assistive technologies, and inadequate qualifications on behalf of institutions for the implementation of digital education. This project sought to address these issues by strengthening higher education staff's and students' digital skills, which have been an obstacle in providing and participating in digital education.
