ISILA aimed to achieve the following objectives: -Develop intervention methods guidelines based on learning analytics (LA) of student learning data -Identify metrics for tracking student engagement, with the goal to increase student learning effectiveness -Design and develop an online platform for collecting, processing and visualizing multimodal data -Conduct evaluation case studies for the proposed methods and tools - Identify learning patterns for continuous improvement of LA-based intervention method
The partners applied for the project to build on the results of the Erasmus+ strategic partnership ILEDA (“Improving Online and Blended Learning with Educational Data Analytics”). ILEDA developed instructional models and digital tools for monitoring student activities, but its use of learning analytics was mainly post-hoc, focusing on evaluating pedagogical approaches after they had taken place and relying mostly on LMS data. The consortium identified the need for more proactive approaches that could support timely interventions for students at risk and make use of heterogeneous data sources beyond LMS environments that would better reflect students' learning. There was also a need to identify different student learning profiles and provide more personalized support. Through ISILA, the partners addressed these needs by developing LA-based interventions and tools that enabled data aggregation and early identification of at-risk students and more effective support in online and blended learning environments.
