Objectives

The Université de Technologie de Belfort-Montbéliard (UTBM) aligns its international strategy with an ethical, inclusive, and sustainable approach to technological development, in accordance with its foundational document, Manifesto of technology of UTBM. This manifesto guides the university’s internationalisation efforts through strong values: democracy, inclusion, sustainability, and environmental responsibility. The Erasmus project fits fully within this framework, serving as a key driver for institutional transformation. The implementation of the project is structured around the three strategic pillars of UTBM’s International Relations and Internationalization Directorate (DRII), each stemming from the manifesto: 1. Promoting internationalization through mobility and attractiveness One of the main objectives is to support and enhance the mobility of students, faculty, and staff, while strengthening the reception and integration of international participants. UTBM aims to foster a multicultural environment that encourages exchange, openness, and the development of global competencies at both the European and international levels. 2. Optimizing processes through quality assurance, digitalization, and strengthened partnerships Another key objective is to engage in the continuous improvement of international practices, supported by a structured quality certification approach. This has already led to the attainment of recognized labels such as the “Qualité FLE label”, which highlights the quality of French as a Foreign Language training. These certifications prompt regular evaluation and enhancement of existing systems, helping to ensure a high standard of educational and support services for international students and partners. In this context, digitalization plays a vital role by facilitating smoother interactions with geographically distant partners, improving service accessibility and visibility, and streamlining mobility management. The integration of tools such as Erasmus Without Paper (EWP) is fully aligned with this effort. This commitment to quality, coherence, and efficiency is also reflected in UTBM’s efforts to strengthen strategic partnerships, especially with institutions that share the university's core values of inclusion, sustainability, and responsibility, as set out in the manifesto. The aim is to build long-term, value-driven collaborations based on a shared vision of higher education and pedagogical innovation at the international level. 3. Fostering pedagogical innovation and interdisciplinary cooperation The Erasmus program also supports initiatives that promote innovative teaching, transversal skills development, and intercultural and interdisciplinary approaches. The goal is to co-develop academic programs and collaborative projects that address major global challenges such as the energy transition, sustainable mobility, and digital transformation. These objectives are a natural continuation of UTBM’s institutional project “Synergie”, launched in 2016, which provides the overarching framework for its internationalization policy. The Council for Internationalization, which meets twice a year, ensures strategic oversight of the project and alignment between institutional goals and on-the-ground implementation. In this context, the Erasmus program is viewed not merely as a mobility tool, but as a true catalyst for openness, innovation, and institutional transformation, supporting the training of responsible engineers equipped to work in international and intercultural environments.
