Internationalization is a priority for the EHESS presidency, and the Erasmus programme strengthens the international dimension of our institution. Indeed, internationalization is central in all EHESS's curricula: this is due, on the one hand, to the importance of studies dedicated to cultural areas; and on the other, to the diversity and multiplicity of our relations with our partners and research centers abroad (universities, schools, UMIFREs, research institutes), as well as our invitation and exchange programs. EHESS has 90 Erasmus+ agreements, receives around 60 students from partner institutions each year for study stays, and sent 100 students abroad in 2024-25 (Erasmus+, bilateral, linguistic stays, thesis co-supervision), representing an increase of almost 67% of our outgoing flows compared to the 2024-2025 academic year. Since 2023, EHESS has also set up, with the support of the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESR), a European programme for training in research through research, consisting of training activities bringing together all levels of young researchers at EHESS: MA students, doctoral students and young doctors (5 years after obtaining their thesis). Managed at the institutional level, this programme draws on the expertise of its research centres. In May 2025, six EHESS research centres are driving the initiative: the Centre for Russian, Caucasian, Eastern European and Central Asian Studies (CERCEC), the Georg Simmel Centre (CGS), Paris School of Economics (PSE), American Worlds (Mondes Américains), the Centre for Turkish, Ottoman, Balkan and Central Asian Studies (CETOBAC), and the Centre for Historical Research (CRH). The EURETES programme provides EHESS with the means to develop a genuine European strategy for research training. Long-term European partnerships (5 years) have been established, with resources tailored to the humanities and social sciences. The six research centres involved organise joint training activities with academic partners in eight European countries (Czech Republic, Ukraine, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Turkey, Greece and Belgium). Funding comes from the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research and EHESS. The amounts vary from €20,000 to €30,000 per year and per project for the French part. The training activities offered include doctoral workshops, round tables, multilingual seminars, collective surveys, research internships, methodological training, etc. In 2024, around 100 mobilities from EHESS to European partners were supported as part of the first three projects. We plan to double the number of mobilities from 2025-2026 onwards. Our European partners also support their outgoing mobilities to EHESS, in particular through the blended intensive programme (BIP) scheme. The EURETES programme is thus intended to complement the Erasmus+ programme, while strengthening EHESS's relations with its Erasmus+ partner universities. The aim of this 2023 project was to support the mobility of our students (Master's and PhD) for long-term study and internship placements. Four hybrid mobility programmes, held as part of the EURETES ‘Faire société’ project led by the Georg Simmel Centre and Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, were also included in this 2023 project, thereby diversifying the mobility activities of EHESS students and strengthening our ties and exchanges with Goethe University. We always prioritise student mobility for our Erasmus+ grant, as it combines the Erasmus+ grant with funding from the EHESS International Relations Department's own resources. Teaching and research staff are supported by the institution's own funds.
