The primary objective of the project was to create opportunities to internationalise student learning experiences by facilitating a nine-week professional internship abroad. The specific aims were to enable students to discover and adapt to a new professional environment, develop and acquire new skills, strengthen their foreign language proficiency and to enhance their adaptability and self-confidence within an economic and socio-cultural context different from that of Reunion Island and mainland France. Our students largely come from vulnerable socio-economic backgrounds on an island located over 9,000 km from continental Europe. Consequently, they face significant geographical and financial barriers that limit their access to European and international opportunities. Any stay on the European continent requires a stopover in Paris, with the Reunion–Paris flight alone costing around €1,600 per person during school holiday periods in both Reunion and mainland France. Within this context, an international internship as part of their post-baccalaureate ‘BTS’ curriculum represents a unique opportunity to gain valuable professional experience. This initiative is designed to broaden both their personal and professional ambitions, while providing continuous guidance and support from their teachers before, during, and after their mobility.
