Objectives

Mobility is the cornerstone of Sciences Po's international strategy, of which the Erasmus programme is one of the main pillars. The Erasmus+ project is an essential tool in the implementation of the compulsory third year abroad of the Bachelor's degree and contributes to the reputation of French and European higher education. The diversity of our student body (50% international from 150 countries) is the result of this openness to the world. As with the priorities of the Erasmus programme, inclusiveness is expressed within our institution through social outreach to disadvantaged groups by waiving tuition fees (for 33% of our student body), granting €11.5 million in scholarships and integrating 2,800 students into Sciences Po through priority education agreements. Emergency programmes have also been put in place to welcome refugee students and, since 2015, Sciences Po has offered a scheme to support migrants who have interrupted their studies, while considering the specific features of their backgrounds. These students benefit from a Professional Certificate in Social Sciences and Humanities for young refugees. This commitment to inclusion is also expressed through a policy of accessibility for students with disabilities, through a system of individual support from admission through to the job market. Sustainable development is one of Sciences Po's priorities through its work on environmental issues, in particular through the creation in 2023 of its Institute for Environmental Transformations and the systematic training of all students in these issues. Sciences Po is committed to a zero-emission pathway by 2050, with a target of alignment with the Paris agreements by 2035 through an ecological transition action plan for the period 2024-2027. In the wake of the health crisis, Sciences Po has widely developed the use of digital technology and offers students a range of digital services designed to facilitate university life, the organisation of work, learning methods and access to documentary resources. Students can manage their course of study online, lectures are filmed and broadcast online on a dedicated platform, and foreign language learning is based on online courses that are combined with classroom lessons (blended learning). Sciences Po assumes its social responsibility as a university and considers that its mission is to produce and share knowledge that has an impact on current issues and to contribute to democratic debate. The civic learning programme is an exercise in citizenship that enables students to fully assume their social and civic responsibility and to invest themselves on behalf of others in accordance with humanist principles. By forging links between theoretical teaching and hands-on experience, students are invited to build an individual or collective project in the fields of general interest and the promotion of equality and solidarity. A fundamental pillar of our undergraduate degree, the validation of the civic learning programme is a prerequisite for obtaining the Bachelor's degree and is a compulsory course requirement. In addition, the student community's involvement in student clubs, civic engagement, student unions, political and professional activities is at the very heart of Sciences Po's educational project. In addition to acting in the common or general interest, these commitments are opportunities for students to acquire or develop numerous skills that are valued on the job market. In this way, Sciences Po's primary mission is to train decision-makers who are both visionary and pragmatic, aware of the common good and capable of transforming society. Mirroring the priorities of the Erasmus Programme, our objective through international mobility experiences has been to strengthen intercultural skills, the notion of European citizenship and participants' sense of belonging to the EU, to pursue and consolidate our commitment to equal opportunities for people with fewer opportunities by awarding inclusion supplements, to encourage the use of low-carbon transport by promoting the eco-responsible bonus, and to perfect our procedures in order to guarantee sound management with a view to respecting the rules of the Programme and optimising the budget. The Erasmus+ programme increases interest in geographical mobility, makes it inclusive and gives everyone the opportunity to have an international experience, but above all a European one, which embodies Sciences Po's commitment to Europe.
