Objectives

The University of Orléans is a medium-sized, multidisciplinary institution, firmly rooted in its region whilst embracing a distinctly European and international outlook. As a founding member of the ATHENA European University, it places the internationalisation of its programmes and campuses among its strategic priorities. It is distinguished by its presence across the entire regional territory, with thirteen additional university sites that reflect its strong integration into the local socio-economic fabric—an integration that also underpins its international reach. In a context where over 30% of its students receive scholarships, often being the first in their families to access higher education, international mobility serves as a key driver of equal opportunity, empowerment, and success. The 2023–2025 period marks a phase of renewal following several years affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and a climate of health and geopolitical uncertainty, which hindered both outgoing and incoming mobility. The Erasmus+ KA131 project aimed to reaffirm the central role of European mobility in academic and professional pathways, restoring confidence among students and staff, and strengthening support mechanisms. Through this project, the University of Orléans sought to encourage the gradual and sustainable resumption of outgoing and incoming mobility, whether for studies, placements, or staff exchanges. A major objective was also to enhance the visibility of the Erasmus+ programme within the university community and to raise awareness among students less familiar with mobility opportunities, in line with the institution’s values of inclusion, equity, and diversity. This project aligns with the commitments set out in the Erasmus+ Charter, particularly in relation to quality, inclusion, and sustainable development. The University places particular emphasis on ensuring Erasmus+ mobility is fully inclusive—both socially and geographically—facilitating participation from staff of all categories and students across all fourteen university sites, including those who are employed, have dependants, or live with disabilities or chronic health conditions. Its strategy aims to improve success rates for students with disabilities, in collaboration with the Fund for the Integration of Disabled Persons in the Public Sector (FIPHFP). In the same spirit, the University of Orléans is committed to harmonising and enhancing administrative practices implemented by international relations teams across its eleven faculties and fourteen sites, through rigorous quality assurance processes. The project also supports pedagogical innovation and strengthens cooperative ties with institutional, economic, and community partners at regional, European, and international levels. Ultimately, this project forms part of a broader vision: to build a more open, collaborative, and European university environment, where mobility is a natural component of the academic journey. By combining personalised support, strategic partnerships, and synergies with the ATHENA alliance, the University of Orléans continues to pursue its ambition of fostering a sustainable, inclusive, and shared internationalisation of its programmes and campuses.
