Objectives

The Local Public Agricultural Education and Vocational Training Institution (EPLEFPA) "Les Sillons de Haute-Alsace," with its 150-year history, is the largest agricultural institution in the Grand Est region and a major player in agricultural education (4th nationally in terms of enrollment). It boasts seven centers, including three teaching farms (agricultural, viticultural, horticultural, and market gardening), and is located a few kilometers from the German and Swiss borders. By 2023, our institution has chosen to implement a voluntary internationalization policy based on a relatively weakened activity following the COVID-19 pandemic and the recognition of strong potential in this area. Ten outgoing student internships and ten outgoing staff training mobilities were requested through the KA 131 2023 call for projects, resulting in six outgoing student internships and six outgoing staff training mobilities. In the meantime, the EPL requested and benefited from a Third-Time International Cooperation and Territorial Development program for a teacher and further strengthened its team by recruiting an international cooperation officer, who will arrive on September 1, 2023. While international cooperation is a regulatory mission of agricultural education (EA), this uniqueness does not in itself justify our mobilization of funding for the KA131 key action. Indeed, ALL EA missions (training, integration, territorial development, experimentation, and sustainable development) closely align with the objectives of the Erasmus+ program. Fully aware of this, the institution wanted to structure and equip itself with the resources to initiate a new dynamic around international development, through and in support of the program. Outgoing mobility opportunities for student internships were intended for the five different BTS programs at our centers, in order to provide our students with the opportunity to complete their mandatory internships abroad. Outgoing mobility opportunities for staff training were intended to allow members of the teaching team, as well as the management team, to meet partners with innovative practices and high potential for cooperation and exchange (engineering, internships, European projects). The overall objective behind this request, in addition to offering our students and staff more opportunities, was to continuously improve the quality of our training offerings and realize the institution's potential for influence, which was intended to create and maintain a virtuous and dynamic cycle of progress throughout the institution.
