The project aims to promote the mobility of students and staff in maritime higher education through Erasmus+, by strengthening both physical and hybrid mobility activities, taking into account the specific characteristics of maritime education, i.e. compliance with international and European texts, which, as currently interpreted by States, considerably hinder training mobility. The main objective is to enable participants to gain international learning, internship, or training experience to improve their academic, linguistic, professional, and intercultural skills, while contributing to European and international cooperation in the maritime sector. Our students are accustomed to foreign environments thanks to their internships aboard ships, but outside of these internships, they are not exposed to a multicultural environment. Furthermore, as ENSM is the only maritime higher education institution in France, our students have no way of comparing teaching methods and curricula, nor do they have the opportunity to interact with merchant navy officer cadets in France. Giving them the opportunity to do so requires international mobility, which not only enriches their academic careers, but also broadens their perspectives on maritime training and the diversity of teaching approaches abroad. For teachers and administrative staff, mobility allows them to compare and contrast teaching, organizational, and governance methods with those of foreign institutions. This openness contributes to the continuous improvement of internal practices, pedagogical innovation, and the professionalization of student support. Participation in mobility programs also helps to establish solid professional and institutional networks, promoting the sharing of best practices and the emergence of international cooperation. For example, it was thanks to an initial AC131 mobility program that more lasting cooperation was achieved: for example, an AC171 project with Quebec, and a cross-exchange of teachers between the Institut maritime du Québec and ENSM for the 2025/2026 academic year. The institution thus aims to anchor the European and international dimension at the heart of its action, by aligning its mobility policy with the Erasmus+ priorities: inclusion and diversity, ecological transition, development of digital skills, and participation in democratic life. In concrete terms, this translates into the organization of hybrid mobility programs, the encouragement of sustainable means of transport, support for disadvantaged profiles, and the promotion of learning outcomes through academic and professional recognition. A second objective is to give each participant—students and staff—the ability to imagine and promote their own professional or academic mobility at the European or international level. The project contributes to the development of a culture of mobility and the construction of a European identity, while enhancing the attractiveness of ENSM and its partners. Mobility allows students to experience cross-curricular programs, access internships and training in foreign institutions, interact with peers from other cultures, and benefit from academic recognition that is valued both in France and internationally. Using Erasmus+ tools and standards, the project also aims to establish a quality approach: a learning agreement signed by all parties before departure, transparent recognition of ECTS credits, satisfaction and learning surveys, promotion of equal treatment and inclusion, and systematic dissemination and promotion of results. Finally, through these mobility programs, ENSM wishes to strengthen its ability to adapt to developments in the maritime sector, support innovation, and anticipate the needs of an international market, thereby contributing to the influence of French and European maritime education.
